Establishing 4-7 unifying umbrella standards that incorporating major age/grade appropriate Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) creates a strong backbone around which specific content curriculum can spiral. Creating assessment rubrics for each umbrella standard that focus on Depth of Knowledge criteria and target exit level benchmarks allow learners and educators to more effectively monitor individual learning. Presenter will provide specific examples of how spiraling has help monitor knowledge growth of individual students while allowing him to maintain academic rigor.
